What is a Woodland Burial?
Woodland burials are also known as 'green' or natural burials. Essentially they all stand for the same values, to reduce lasting damage and impact to our natural environment. Northumbrian Woodland Burials offer an enviromentaly- friendly alternative to tradition burial and cremation and in turn this allows people who opt for a woodland or green burial two things: simplicity and flexibility. You can opt for a simple interment with no memorial service, or an entirely personalised service.
Arranging a Funeral
We are here to help and advise in any way that we can, and offer our experience so that arranging a funeral for a loved one is as easy as possible.
You will need a Funeral Director, we use many local companies and most are familiar with our site. We will happily put you in touch with a funeral director if you have not already chosen one. We will liaise closely with the Director of your choice to ensure that all of your needs are met.
Choice of coffins
We are happy to accept all biodegradable coffins. Your funeral director will talk you through the choices available, of which there are now many which don’t leave a lasting impact on the land or soil beneath.
Flowers and grave decoration
Fresh flowers are allowed however we do ask that you remove all plastic and non-degradable wrapping. No plastic flowers or artificial materials are permitted. Only memorials and trees supplied and fitted by Northumbrian Woodland Burials are allowed. No plots should be edged with curbing.
We will remove flowers as part of our ongoing maintenance, once they have wilted. Any items not permitted will be removed and stored for a period of 3 months. Once this time has passed these items will be disposed of.
Health and safety
Our meadows and woodlands have grass pathways however the ground can still be uneven. To avoid trips and falls we recommend that flat footwear is worn whilst visiting the site or attending a service. If your require any assistance please don't hesitate to get in touch, we will happily assist you in any way that we can. During winter months it is advisable to wear waterproof footwear such as wellington boots.
If you have any questions or would like to arrange a visit, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
